BOX ME UP

Vertical Studio Elective is a module that allows architecture students to embark in a chosen elective. Students from all three years will attend these electives together.

I chose the module BOX ME UP. This module explores the idea of modularity in architecture. We were tasked to use everyday reusable items like spoon, chopsticks and plates to make modules and later on form a folly using the modules.

My team and I chose chopsticks as our basic materials due to its flexibility in making modules. Our modules consisted of three chopsticks connected at the end by a rubber band. These modules were combined to form double units. These double units were later on connected together to form the folly. Despite using polygons as modules, we were able to form a folly that has curvature.

Through this, I learnt that modularity helps to speed up construction. Modules can be fabricated quickly and assembled on site easily.
