THE CREATION
JOURNEY OF INNOVATION
A school for industrial designers, the cycle of innovation is interwoven through the movement of students between spaces dedicated to the craft.

SITE
The site is located at Selegie Road, adjacent to the Selegie Art Centre.
​
Located in an art district, there are numerous renowned art schools in close proximity to the site. This creative crowd resultant of the art schools and surrounding art shops, serve as an audience for students to advertise their creations.

DESIGN PROCESS
ATRIUM
Central opening cuts across the site, respecting existing pathway and facilitating human circulation
Doubles up as the main entrance
SHOP & EXHIBITION CENTRE
Located along the shop front of Selegie Road, it will attract the creative crowd and advertise the innovative products
It also buffers noise from the road for the upper floors
LECTURE THEATRE, STAFF ROOM, LIBRARY
Located at the base of the studio, the lecture theatre and staff rooms are easily accessible for students, for lessons and to find lecturers
The library is located in a central location for students to access it from throughout the school
CONCEPTUAL BLOCK
The concept block Is located closer to the Selegie Art Centre, as it is more quiet and the view of the windows can be used to inspire students
OVERARCHING IDEA
A central pathway mirrors the design thinking cycle (below), connecting spaces dedicated to the various stages. As students move through this path, they experience a change in mindset and prepare themselves for the next stage in the process.

FOYER
Located along Prinsep Street, users driving in can easily access the entrance, without disrupting traffic
Adjacency to the exhibition makes it efficient during events
WORKSHOP
Sunken into the ground, the workshop’s noise is buffered. The other workshop located above the foyer buffers the noise from the foyer
They are located on lower floors to be more grounded
STUDIO
Positioned in a V-Shape, the studio blocks, capture the north-east winds, ventilating the deeper areas of the school.
They also open up to the view beyond the shophouses
TERRACING
The terracing is to let in more light to the atrium space and also open the façade to south-west winds
